Cheap Trick - Silver Legacy Grande Exposition Hall – 8:00PM -  Hot August Night's will heat up when Cheap Trick takes the stage at Silver Legacy's Grande Exposition Hall Friday, August 5 at 9 p.m. and Saturday, August 6 at 8 p.m.
Cheap Trick signed with Epic Records in 1976, releasing their self-titled brilliant debut in early 1977. The record sold well in America, yet it failed to chart. However, the group became a massive success in Japan, going gold upon release. Later that year, the band released their second album, In Color. Epic A&R man/producer Tom Werman backed In Color away from the harder rocking Cheap Trick, featuring a slicker production and quieter arrangements that spotlighted the band's melodic skills. Due to their constant touring, the record made it into the U.S. charts, peaking at number 73; in Japan it became another gold-seller.
The band realized that they were virtual superstars in Japan when they toured the country in early 1978. Their concerts were selling out within two hours and they packed the Budokan Arena. Cheap Trick's concerts at the Budokan Arena were recorded for a television program -- which ended up becoming an album that appeared after their third album, 1978's Heaven Tonight. Heaven Tonight captured both the loud, raucous energy of their debut and the hook-laden song craft of In Color, leading to their first Top 100 single, "Surrender," which peaked at number 62. However, the live performances on At Budokan (1979) captured the band's energetic, infectious live show, resulting in their commercial breakthrough in the U.S. The album stayed on the charts for over a year, peaking at number four and eventually selling over three million copies.

In 1988 and under CBS Record's direction the group began working on a new album with the help of several outside songwriters. The resulting album, Lap of Luxury, was a platinum Top 20 hit, featuring the number one power ballad "The Flame" and a Top Ten version of Elvis Presley's "Don't Be Cruel." Early in 1997, the group released a Steve Albini produced single Baby Talk on Sub Pop, which was followed by Cheap Trick, their critically acclaimed debut for Red Ant/Alliance in the spring. Seven weeks after releasing the record Red Ant/Alliance declared Chapter 11 causing a furious music retail community to yank the record from stores nearly bankrupting the band in the process. 1998 saw the band rebuilding by trying to restore normal relations with Sony and the music retail community and establishing their own record company; Cheap Trick Unlimited. They toured behind the re-mastered re-releases of Budokan: the Complete Concert, and their first three records. One of the multi-night stands from this amazing tour resulted in Music For Hangovers, a brilliant and vibrant live effort. Amid much criticism Cheap Trick Unlimited sold the CD exclusively on amazon.com for 8 weeks prior to releasing it in stores. To support the record they headlined, co-billed with Guided By Voices, and opened for Pearl Jam. In early 2000 Cheap Trick entered into a license with musicmaker.com to directly download and create custom CDs for over 50 songs.

After spending a good part of 2001 writing songs and about six weeks of pre-production, Cheap Trick went into Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, NY in March 2002 where the lads put together song by song their first studio album in six years - Special One. In May 2003 Cheap Trick decided to bring their record label to Big3 Entertainment. Under the deal, Cheap Trick Unlimited/Big3 Entertainment released the album Special One. For Cheap Trick it's always been the music that matters.
Ticket prices to see Cheap Trick are $55, $45, $35 and are on sale online at silverlegacy.com and ticketmaster.com, through Silver Legacy reservations at 1-800-MUST-SEE or 325-7401 in Reno and at the Resort Casino's Box Office located on the main casino floor.

Carole King

Aug 9 = Considered by some to be the most successful and most revered female songwriter in pop music history, Carole King is scheduled to perform more than five decades of music for audiences at the Reno Events Center on August 9. Presented by Circus Circus Reno, Eldorado Hotel Casino, Harrah’s Reno, and Silver Legacy Resort Casino, “The Living Room Tour” will include more than two hours of songs drawn from King’s 40-year-plus career, including everything from her early hits, to overlooked gems, to two new songs - all with acoustic arrangements.
The multiple city tour stops in Reno for an 8pm performance, following a sold-out concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. King was first inspired to embark on the “Living Room Tour” while she and co-producer and guitarist Rudy Guess were performing in private homes and small venues around the country.

"I realized I could do the same thing in a large venue and make it feel like a living room," King recalls. "The idea of bringing the show back to basics really appealed to me." It's an idea that undoubtedly appeals to her legion of fans that helped make last year's leg of the tour such a success. Now, her new Rockingale Records/Concord Records/Starbucks Hear Music™ release, documents the magic of the concert dates on The Living Room Tour, a 27-song, double CD suffused with King's legendary warmth and wisdom.

If ever an artist has belonged in America's living rooms, it's King. In the 1960s, she and co-writer Gerry Goffin quietly defined a generation with more than 50 songs that landed in the Top 40. In 1971, she gave us the landmark Tapestry, one of the best-selling and best-loved albums ever made. To date, more than 400 Carole King compositions have been recorded by more than 1000 artists, resulting in 100 hit singles - many reaching the coveted #1 spot. In all, The Living Room Tour CD features King performing 27 of her classic songs, including 7 #1 hits. From "It's Too Late" and "So Far Away," to "I Feel the Earth Move" and "(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman," she brings to the melodies and lyrics a deep level of familiarity and understanding that the audience embraces. Listening to the album, it's clear that King's music evokes memories of a special time and place, like catching up with a dear, cherished friend. It's hardly surprising then that the timeless classic "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" receives perhaps the warmest and most heart-felt reaction from the crowd. King co-wrote the track, which became a #1 hit for The Shirelles, when she was just 17 years-old. Her own performance of the tune was one of Tapestry's myriad highlights.
"When I get to that song, people just shout out, 'Yeah,' and they sing along," she says affectionately.

Tickets to Carole King at the Reno Events Center are $55, $65, $75, and $92 and can be purchased by phone at (888) 288-1833; online at www.ticketmaster.com or www.downtownreno.com and at Circus Circus’ Main Cage, the Eldorado Showroom Box Office, Harrah’s Box Office, and Silver Legacy’s Box Office.

Tom Jones

Renowned for his live performances, Silver Legacy is pleased to welcome back Tom Jones for two nights on Friday, August 26 at 9 p.m. and Saturday, August 27 at 8 p.m. After hitting the music scene with "It's Not Unusual" in 1965, Jones has continued to generate extraordinary appeal decade to decade with new releases and successful collaborations. Boston Globe reviewer Michael Saunders said, "(Jones is) one of the few performers able to bridge decades, meld musical genres and cultural tastes - it's all done without pandering or appearing hokey and forced. When he sings a song, he leaves it with an indelible imprint."

After four decades in music, Tom Jones is hotter than ever with several recent releases and a packed schedule of live shows. His latest release is his collaboration with Big Band leader Jools 'the piano' Holland. 'Tom Jones & Jools Holland' is a barrage of timeless tracks, with Howlin' Wolf's '200lbs Of Heavenly Joy' kick starting the campaign. 'Good Morning Blues/One O'Clock Jump, 'My Babe', 'Who Will The Next Fool Be' and the classic 'Hanging Up My Heart For You' add to the mix and offer the most intimate insight into the influences of two of the UK's greatest ever performers.

The four CD Definitive Collection, released in 2003 catalogues some of the best moments from Jones' four-decade long career and includes songs from the best selling hits of "It's Not Unusual," and "Kiss," to rare covers such as "Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay," and "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone." Last year Tom also released his Greatest Hits package in the UK and US, undertook a massive tour of Europe and was presented with a BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.
In 2002 Jones released an album of new material with ex-Fugee member Wyclef Jean on the album "Mr. Jones." A departure from what many may have expected from him, the album includes hard-sounding R&B tracks that combine the talents of Jones and Jean who collaborated on writing lyrics as well. Jones said, "The ability I have leans more towards rhythm and blues, and I have never really made a full album of what I would call the soul side of me. Clef is so musical and so much in tune with what I feel... this is the most natural thing I've ever done, and it's exciting and it's new."
Collaborations have worked well for Jones, who joined forces with Van Morrison on the critically acclaimed "Carrying a Torch" in 1991 and partnered with the likes of The Cardigans, Robbie Williams, Chrissie Hynde and others in 1999 to record the "Reload" album.

It was another significant pairing that brought him back to the forefront of pop music in 1988. After producing hit singles in the 60s and touring extensively throughout the 70s, the collaboration with the Art of Noise on Prince's "Kiss" re-energized the singer's career and introduced him to the MTV generation in both the US and Europe. With a strong following from fans who have been with him since the beginning all the way to teenagers "discovering" him for the first time, Jones seems more unstoppable at this stage of his career than any other. In a review of a recent show, Max Bell of the Evening Standard said, "Raging Bull, that was Tom Jones last night, reactivated, stylistically renewed and ready to rock. The audience, many of them mere striplings not even born when Tom was in his initial pomp, was gobsmacked. He wasn't like this in the sixties, he's improved with age...(He) left everyone with huge smiles on their faces... way to go Tom."
Tickets to see Tom Jones are $75, $65 and $55 and are on sale online at silverlegacy.com and ticketmaster.com, through Silver Legacy reservations at 1-800-MUST-SEE or 325-7401 in Reno and at the Resort Casino's Box Office on the main casino floor.

Doors of the 21st Century

You don’t need a time machine to enjoy the psychedelic music of the 60’s anymore. Finally breaking through to the other side, The Doors of the 21st Century are bringing the timeless music of The Doors back for audiences to enjoy live, now. This must-see show is in the Reno Hilton’s Outdoor Amphitheater at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27. Tickets are on sale now at the Reno Hilton Ticket Office, (800) 648-3568, or online at ticketmaster.com and are just $57.75 or $47.25.

The Doors of the 21st Century have been reassembled and reintroduced to their fans by original Doors keyboardist/organist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger. They are joined by vocalist Ian Astbury of The Cult, drummer Ty Dennis, and bassist Angelo Barbera. The quintet joins together on stage not to recreate The Doors’ recorded music or pay tribute to the honored band, but to play the music that Manzarek and Krieger wrote. Of the new incarnation of the band, Manzarek says, “The playing is better. The musicianship has improved…People are not under the influence of hallucinogenic substances.” While the group’s heads may be clearer, The Doors of the 21st Century still have the same life philosophy that they did in the 60’s, which is why the music still fits for them. Legendary songs like 1967’s “Light My Fire,” “Break On Through” and “Riders on the Storm” come back to life on stage with these all-new live performances. Jim Morrison’s poetry lives on.
